Living Sacrifices - Becoming a Royal Priesthood

Aug 05, 2025

For a long time, the modern church has used worship as a tool to draw a crowd. Cool bands, lights, and sounds that echo the world’s music—it became a strategy. And while it’s helped attract people, it’s no longer unique. Nearly every charismatic church around the globe has adopted the same model. The result? A growing hunger for something deeper. Something raw, honest, even a little messy—but real.

God has called us to be in the world, but not of it. That means living in a way that’s intentionally countercultural. And as worshippers, this calling hits even harder. Romans 12:1 urges us to “offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” Paul doesn’t stop there. He adds, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world.”

So what does that look like in practical terms?

We can take our cues from the Levitical priests in the Old Testament—the Kohanim. They weren’t just worship leaders. They were guardians of the sacred space. It was their job to maintain holiness in the temple. Now, because of the blood of Jesus, we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. That same call to holiness now rests on us.

And here’s the key: we can’t do it in our own strength. It’s God’s grace that empowers us to live holy lives. Not a grace that excuses compromise, but one that fuels transformation—grace for Monday through Saturday, not just Sunday mornings.

The stakes are high. Revival doesn’t start on a stage. It starts in a heart. If we want to see God move in our churches, cities, and nations, it begins with us. Hearts that burn daily for Him. Lives that reject the world’s ways. This is what it means to be a living sacrifice—laying ourselves down again and again, until everything in us that’s not of Him is consumed by His fire.

When we worship with no agenda but to seek Him—no performance, no polish—that’s when the glory of God breaks in.

So today, ask Him to search your heart. As David prayed in Psalm 139:
“Search me, God, and know my heart… lead me in the way everlasting.”
